Burns out of luck at Tandragee
250 Race Burns and M Dunlop renewed their rivalry on the 5.34 mile County Armagh Circuit. Dunlop and Burns were the clear leaders at the end of the first lap, however at the end of the next circuit it was Burns at the front with Dunlop in his wheel tracks well clear of Morrell.
At the end of lap three Burns went through the start finish area on his own and looked destined to take the 250 honours but, the red flags came out as Paul Newton had crashed heavily on the approach to Castle corner.
It transpired that Dunlop went out on the same lap with a broken chain. As Club officials dealt with the Newton incident it gave Dunlop time to repair his machine and take part in the restarted race.
As in part one it was the same two protagonists who diced for the top podium spot. Both shared the lead but it was Dunlop who took the chequered flag just over one second ahead of Burns. The Lisburn rider’s clutch went at the restart but managed to finish second and his fastest lap was 1:05.23 (96.05) mph.
Unfortunately the meeting ended in tragic circumstances when Martin Finnegan Tragically lost his life.
Darren and everyone connected with the Burns Racing team would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Martin’s family, friends and team at this terribly sad time.
